In a panic, I fumbled with my camera to snap this photo of a striking songbird in Stone State Park. I was happy to see that my hurried shot captured how this tiny red bird pops against the green foliage. Later in the day, a couple of birders on the trail told me that what I had seen was a Scarlet Tanager. The couple I meet mentioned that they had been looking for one all day. I didn’t want to tell them that this was the third Scarlet Tanager I had seen that day.
